Let Intellectual Property Bloom
It was only in the 1980s that mainland China and Hong Kong began to develop their respective intellectual property systems. For mainland China, it had to begin nearly from scratch. For Hong Kong, there would be a legal vacuum on intellectual property if the United Kingdom imperial laws were not localized before July 1, 1997.
As a founding Member of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 1995, Hong Kong's intellectual property system has been fully consistent with international standards and norms. Mainland China became fully compliant when it became a WTO Member in 2001. Macau and Taiwan, as WTO Members, also comply with the WTO intellectual property standards.
The four intellectual property systems in Greater China have been developing fast in the dynamic knowledge cum creativity cum innovative contexts. Intellectual property has been embraced and is being strategized and communicated as the driver for economic, social and cultural development. I happened to be one of the active actors of the intellectual property ecosystem that should nurture the 21st Century intellectual property economy.
