Following Through
FADE IN:
INT. STUDY - DAY
Clearing up a few things, PETER returns to his working desk. Picking up his phone, Peter sees a few photos.
PETER (V.O.)
I only began my March
trip on the last day of
the month. I planned
my trip in Jan, not knowing
my March assignments.
FLASHBACK
INT. UNIVERSITY CAMPUS - DAY (Spring, 2018)
PROFESSOR#1 chats with Peter.
PROFESSOR#1
Would you be interested
to give a talk next March?
Peter nods.
INT. ANOTHER UNIVERSITY CAMPUS - DAY (Autumn, 2018)
Job done. PROFESSOR#2 chats with Peter.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Our second session will be
on March 30, 2019, please
block your diary.
END FLASHBACK
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
I did block my diary but
there was no following
through.
FLASHBACK
INT. HARVARD LECTURE THEATRE - DAY (2003)
Peter (49) sits among a group of mature students. PROFESSOR#3 (60s) speaks.
PROFESSOR#3
...not many people follow
through matters... jobs never
get done...
PETER (V.O.)
That's true. A star, my wife's
idol, said that he'd buy her
a lunch... Nothing happened...
I don't mind.
END FLASHBACK
PETER (V.O.)
It turned out that I had
many other March
assignments, and I saw,
as expected, Sakura full
bloom in Tokyo.
Pausing,
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
I had just two destinations
and sightseeing could
finish in two days. But
the weather might not be
fine and so I stayed for
three nights.
Peter swipes his photos.
.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd)
I stayed in different hotels
tried different breakfasts.
I took a different perspective
in my repeated visits to
Oeno Park too!
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
And I even got an assignment
while having a pleasant time
in Tokyo. What a work-life
balance!
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
I even venture to a new
destination on the last
day of my trip. I did
worry if my GPS would
continue to work properly
so that I wouldn't get
loss.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Yes, I've to speak in a
University function the
following day. It would
be very bad if I didn't
show up just because
I was so immersed in
my happy moments that
I lost my sense of time.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
To play safe, I did make
my adventure less
adventurous as I've the
obligation to deliver.
Peter checks his guitars.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
I did promise to bring my
guitar and might sing a
few songs, if circumstances
were appropriate... See
how it goes.
FLASHBACK
EXT. UNDER SAKURA TREES - DAY
Peter sees people gathering together, eating and drinking. Hearing nice guitar strums and melodies, Peter gets nearer to the group, capturing the sakura blossoms with his iPadmini at the same time.
END FLASHBACK
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Yes, I'll sing my first
composition during my
speech to lighten the
mood and to inspire
creativity.
INT. UNIVERSITY CAMPUS - DAY
A reception. Peter shakes hands with PROFESSOR#4.
PETER
Thank you very much
for your arrangement.
PROFESSOR#4
I'll click the images for
you during your presentation.
Peter plays the guitar and entertains guests who take interest in him. Laughter and photo sessions.
INT. MOOT COURT - NIGHT
Panelists on stage. When Professor#4 clicks an image depicting his playing the guitar and singing, Peter grabs the guitar and sings his song. We hear: "So long, Yvonne..." A round of applause.
PETER (V.O.)
I've kept my promise and
delivered!
INT. MTR - NIGHT
Peter checks his phone messages. Seeing a video clip depicting him singing on stage, Peter smiles.
