An Eye On The Law
FADE IN.
EXT. CAR - DAY
PETER is listening to a radio broadcast.
PETER (V.O.)
(Not pleased)
The guy wants Govt to
concede more. Would
appeasement tame rioters?
They demand to be above
the law and act to that
effect before caught!
INT. STUDY - DAY
Peter sits behind the computer.
PETER (V.O.)
I wish to document matters
that are memorable... Yes,
our riding the London Eye...
FLASHBACK
EXT. LONDON EYE - DAY
London blue sky. Peter, his WIFE and younger DAUGHTER are near the queue.
PETER (V.O.)
At last, we're here. I've
forgotten when were the
few times I was in the
vicinity. I thought there
was no point for me to
ride alone.
PETER
(To wife)
Did you ride on it two
years ago when you're
in London alone?
WIFE
No, I didn't want to wait.
FLASHBACK UPON FLASHBACK
EXT. WESTMINSTER BRIDGE - DAY (2012)
Walking along the bridge, Peter (58) stops and takes a photo of the London Eye.
PETER (V.O.)
I'm here on business and not
for leisure.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
I used to stopover in London
for lunches with my former
law professor before flying
onto Geneva for conferences
or settling international trade
dispute. I didn't bother to
come near here.
END FLASHBACK UPON FLASHBACK
Peter's wife makes an enquiry with a queue STAFF#1.
WIFE
Just 10-minute wait.
Phone in hand, Daughter taps the screen a few times.
DAUGHTER
Done.Six pounds cheaper
per ticket than buying direct
from the Ticketing Counter..
Peter smiles.
INT. TICKETING COUNTER - DAY
Daughter shows her phone's QR code to STAFF#2 and then gets three paper tickets.
PETER
All set?
Daughter nods.
EXT. PASSENGER CAPSULE - DAY
While the daughter is seated in the middle, Peter and his wife are busy walking around, taking photos and videos among other 20 or so PASSENGERS.
PETER (V.O.)
The rotation rate is so
slow. I don't quite feel
it's moving up. This's
no different from starting
up any career.
The wheel rotates upwards.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
There's not much to
see. The UK Parliament
is enclosed with a facade.
Their capsule reaches the top.
PETER (V.O.)
At the top is great but
lonely - can be dangerious
too...
The wheel rotates downwards.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Oh, we're going down
already. so quick, like
many good things.
RETURN TO PRESENT
Peter's eyes turn to the TV.
PETER (V.O.)
Oh, the UK Supreme
Court is going to deliver
its judgment regarding
the legality of PM's
suspension of Parliament.
Peter goes to the sofa to watch breaking news attentively.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
See if my hunch is correct -
in my opinion, the issue is
justiciable.
A LADY (60s) on TV screen is speaking.
LADY
(On screen)
...The issue is justiciable
...
PETER (V.O.) It's a unanimous judgment...
PM's advice to the Queen
was unlawful...
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)
Poor Queen, she was
fooled by the PM.
TV screen. A WOMAN (40s) is being interviewed.
WOMAN
(from screen)
Even the PM is not above
the law.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)
But Hong Kong rioters and
protesters want them to be
above the law! Not just to
have an eye on the law!
FADE OUT.
