IP & Sports

FADE IN:

INT. SLEEPING ROOM - DAY

PETER wakes up in bed, putting one hand on his waist.

PETER (V.O.)

A little stress here. Did

I twist too much in my

1 km swimming yesterday

night?

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

Today, April 26, is the

World IP Day. I used to

plan and execute activities

to showcase the function

of IP in encouraging and

rewarding innovation and

creativity.

MONTAGE OF PETER'S WORLD IP DAY ACTIVITIES

A/ Peter researches on the year's theme.

B/ Peter has meetings with colleagues.

C/ Peter monitors the service delivery at venues.

D/ Peter plays a leading role in speaking and singing.

END MONTAGE

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

I'm not innovative, having

neither any inventive patents

nor eye-appeal designs.

But I believe everyone

can be creative and can

establish his/her own

identity or brand.

Peter surfs the web with a Nokia smart phone.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

Oh, the World IP Day

2019 theme is: "Reach

for gold: IP and sports".

INT. STUDY- DAY

Peter works on his computer.

PETER (V.O.)

My sports are largely 1000m swimming 4 days a week, 70 push-ups a day if I feel fit and some casual running. I

just want to add years to my

life. I don't compete or

entertain anyone. I only

learn from the gold

medalists.

INT. MALE CHANGING ROOM -DAY

Peter in swim gear takes a look of himself in a mirror.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

There's a lot of money,

more than gold in the

sports market. Just look

at my basic swimming

gear. My swimming briefs,

goggles and caps are of

good quality and design

and branded.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

From the IP perspective,

they're products protected

inventive patents and eye- appeal designs and no-one

is allowed to infringe or

pass off their trade mark

rights.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

Like sports, industrial and

commercial competition

has to be fair as well.

INT. STUDY - DAY

Peter works on his computer.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

When I express my idea

about IP & Sports in this

blog post, I get automatic

copyright protection

worldwide of my

intellectual effort.

Peter takes a look of the screen of his gold-colour iPad Mini 5.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

Even modern plant varieties

that can set the ground for

perfect green pitches for

sports persons is mentioned.

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

But there's no mention of

trade secret or undisclosed

information in IP & Sports.

FLASHBACK

INT. SWIMMING POOL - DAY

Peter swims lap after lap.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

As I swim, I've been

thinking and trying if

I can develop a unique

secret skill that has

athletic and commercial

value - reaching for

gold on both fronts!

Pausing.

PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)

If I manage my trade

secret reasonably well

like the Coke formula

or the KFC recipe, or

any unrevealed magic,

I can have perpetual

protection.

END FLASHBACK

INT - A HERITAGE VENUE - NIGHT

Peter is among the GUESTS. We see a sign board highlighting: "World Intellectual Property Day 2019". Demonstrating some sports wear, a MAN (40s) and a WOMAN (40s) chat at the podium.

PETER (V.O.) Some Hongkongers can

smell the money and

interface IP with sports!

Peter takes some photos.

INT - STUDY - NIGHT

Selecting and insert a photo from his phone as the feature photo of this blog post, Peter pauses.

PETER (V.O.)

The colour of the logo

of Hong Kong, China's

Intellectual Property

Department used to

be blue to signify IP

is cool. When we

began to promote IP

to the public in the late

1990s, we made the

decision to change it

to gold. We've been

right all along!

Peter smiles.
