Sound Marks
FADE IN.
INT. STUDY - NIGHT
PETER is checking his phone messages.
PETER (V.O.)
Oh, I'm asked to do
a short promotional
video.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
As it's a creative
trademark conference
it's only right that we've
to make a difference.
Pausing.
PETER(V.O.) (Cont'd)
I'd include my sound
mark. But it's late at
night now.
Peter types on the phone: I'll send it over tomorrow.
INT. SLEEPING ROOM - DAY
Waking up, Peter looks lost.
PETER (V.O.)
I dreamt of a new tune.
But it's gone now.
INT. STUDY - DAY
Sitting on a sofa, Peter picks up a yellow Gibson SG guitar and switches on a Roland Cube Street guitar amplifier. He begins to strum. We hear dissonance.
PETER (V.O.)
What should be my
sound mark then?
FLASHBACK
INT. GOLDEN BAUHINIA RESTAURANT - DAY (2014)
Peter (59) is chatting with a LADY (54) and a GENTLEMAN (56).
PETER
I've composed some
short tunes as sound
marks. Just want you
to hear them and have
your comments.
Peter finds the voice memos from his phone and taps: Play. We hear some guitar music.
GENTLEMAN
I like the one with
the easy-listening
genre.
PETER
That in fact is the
introductory riff of
one of my love
songs - just C, Am
and G7.
GENTLEMAN
It sounds upbeat.
It can be a nice
sound mark for
an airline going to
tropical destinations.
PETER
(Mouth wide open)
Is that right?
END FLASHBACK
PETER (V.O.)
Okay, let me just
use that as my
introductory sound
mark.
MONTAGE OF PETER'S VIDEO RECORDING
A. Peter puts his phone at a right position to capture him carrying the Gibson guitar and then taps the video recording icon.
B. Peter then plays the guitar and we hear easy-listening guitar riffs.
C. Peter then pauses and begins to say something.
D. Finishing his promo, he strums once before stopping the recording.
E. Having viewed the recording, Peter does a Take 2, views it and looks pleased.
F. Peter then sends the video to somebody via his phone.
G. Peter sees a reply: Great! I've become your instant fan! We see a happy emoji.
H. Peter smiles and replies with: Thank you for your support!
END MONTAGE
PETER (V.O.)
Done! Looking forward
to my presentation!
INT. STUDY - NIGHT
Working behind a computer, Peter checks mails.
PETER (V.O.)
I love the survey lead:
Be an active voice to
help them shape my
experience?
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Why not! It flew me
to a paradise on earth,
and I've just flown back
from Fukuoka with the
airline.
Peter begins answering the questionnaires on the screen.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Oh, not just a survey,
but the possibility of a
focus-group meeting.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd)
Okay, I express my
interest. If we meet face
to face, I'd encourage
the airline and its sister
airlines to use sound
marks!
Peter smiles.
